CENTURY old borough allotments on Hurst Road, Twyford, have been brought up to date with the addition of green innovations.
The amenities’ modern makeover will benefit existing and new users, particularly residents of Matthewsgreen in North Wokingham.
Improvements to the site include the addition of a shed with solar panel powered plug sockets, and an odour-free ‘dry’ composting toilet that uses no water or chemicals.
The scheme is welcoming applications, which will be handled by Twyford Parish Council.
It complements other allotments at Keephatch Beech, off Diamond Jubilee Way, and at Montague Park in the South Wokingham new community.
The Twyford upgrade was funded by developers building new homes in the area, as part of their obligation to fund local amenities.
Wokingham Borough Council says it is striving to make the borough carbon neutral by 2030, and that this includes making buildings and amenities as energy efficient as possible.
