Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Man Utd’s 2-0 victory was flattering on the home side.
Reading impressed in defeat at Old Trafford, dominating possession with 61% as well as having more shots than the hosts.
But with Andy Yiadom and Danny Loader missing their chances, Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku converted to give the Red Devils victory in the FA Cup third round tie.
“Reading made it really difficult for us,” said United’s caretaker boss Solskjaer, who made nine changes from his side’s midweek Premier League victory at Newcastle.
“We never had a kick in the first five minutes. They kept possession and we weren’t cohesive enough in the pressing.
“That happens when you have a team that hasn’t played together as much.
“It was always going to be difficult with my team selection. I made it hard for the players to be fair on them.
“The pleasing thing is we’re through and got another clean sheet. 2-0 flatters us a bit because they (Reading) played some great stuff.
“Then again, we could’ve made it three and four towards the end.
“Individual quality got us through.
“We got a test of character today.”
