BOROUGH residents are being encouraged to get on their bikes, now that entries are open for this year’s Wokingham Bikeathon.
The annual event will take place on Sunday, June 30, and this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.
Launched in 2009, the family-friendly event offers two routes to take in.
Both start and finish in Cantley Park, off Twyford Road. The shorter route is 15 miles, while the longer one is 35.
This year, organisers have been working hard to create a new route with Wokingham Cycling Club.
Both rides take in calm roads and beautiful countryside.
A spokesperson said: “In previous years the organisers have seen cyclists of all ages and abilities participate.
“Many children have cycled with their parents.
“The Sprockets Cycle Club which caters for children aged six to 16 always attends.
“Some adults cycle on their own, while others get friends and family to join them.”
And it’s not just about the ride. There will be a range of activities at Cantley to enjoy as well as experts on hand to ensure bikes are in top condition before the ride.
The first Bikeathon attracted just 143 riders, but last year saw more than 800 riders take part. Organisers are hoping for a bumper turnout this year.
And the more people who attend, the more money will be raised for local charities.
