PICTURE GALLERY: Ascot United win at Wembley in FA Vase Final to complete league and cup double

ASCOT UNITED made history at Wembley Stadium as Kai Walters’ 80th minute winner ensured they overcame defending champions Newport Pagnell Town to win the FA Vase.

With more than 4,000 Yellas fans turning out to the home of football for the big day, the players made it a day to remember by delivering on the pitch.

In a tense encounter that was goalless for the opening 80 minutes and looked headed for extra-time, Ascot made sure that there wouldn’t be an extra 30 minutes and the possibility of a penalty shootout.

Substitute Walters popped up with the all important goal as he snuck in at the near post to connect with man of the match Sean McCormack’s cross and glanced the ball into the far corner.

The goal sent the Ascot players, fans and staff into jubilation with one hand now on the trophy.

The team guided their way through the next 10 minutes and six minutes of additional time as their defence stood resilient to maintain their clean sheet.

The final whistle sounded and the team could finally celebrate on the hallowed Wembley turf in what has been an exceptional season for the club.

Ascot have achieved the double having already won the Combined Counties Premier North with 102 points which earned them promotion to step four. They will play in the Isthmian South Central from next campaign.
