A POP-UP art gallery is opening in Wokingham this weekend – and the pieces could fit in your pocket.

Art4Wokingham is hosting an exhibition in Wokingham Library from tomorrow through to Wednesday, November 29, featuring a galaxy of works all for sale and some by some very famous names.

There are almost 100 entrants in the display, selling from £10, meaning they can make unique gifts for the big day next month.

Proceeds from the sale will go towards Art4Wokingham’s landmark project: The Arc. This will be a stainless steel sculpture created by internationally acclaimed artist Nicola Anthony and be sited outside the library, creating a landmark that the group hopes will become a tourist attraction in the same way that people flock to see works such as The Angel of the North.

Among those who have created works are Arts4Wokingham Patron, Strictly Come Dancing star Ian Waite.

He is a keen supporter of the campaign to secure a landmark piece of sculpture for the borough, so much so that his artwork represents his own interpretation of The Arc.

“How fantastic to have a distinguished and stunning artwork that will define Wokingham and add to both the well-being of those who live here and the town’s newly regenerated environment,” he said.

Entry is free, and the exhibition is open during library opening hours: 9.30am to 4pm on Saturday and Wednesday, 9.30am to 5pm on Monday and Tuesday. The library is closed on Sunday.
