A NEW street named after a Wokingham town councillor finally had their signs installed this week … only to be taken down due to a geographical cock-up.
Vestry Thames Valley has built homes in Box Place as part of its Emmbrook Place development.
And this week signs were erected correctly identifying the street but using the crest of Woking Borough Council instead of Wokingham, after a mix-up between our neighbours in Surrey.
They have since been removed and will be replaced with the correct crest in place.
Emmbrook Place is a collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes in the Matthewsgreen area of the borough, and is close to The Emmbrook School, Wokingham Theatre and Cantley Park.

Some of the streets have been named after councillors, including James Box.
He joined the Town Council in May 2019, as a Labour Councillor representing Wescott West – the first from the party, but passed away suddenly in June 2020.
The street is named as a tribute to him.
Another street is named after Helen Power, a Liberal Democrat borough councillor for Evendons ward. This sign has the correct crest on it.

Wokingham Borough Council is not responsible for the signage, as the development is still being created.
Instead, responsibility for reworking the botched signs lies with Vistry Thames Valley. They have promised to make good.
A spokesperson for the firm said: “We are aware there was an error on the Box Close street signs installed at the Emmbrook Place development.
“This was due to an oversight when the signs were ordered and unfortunately, it wasn’t picked up until after the signs were installed.
“The signs have since been removed and we have ordered replacements, which we are waiting for confirmation of the delivery date.”
