A local personal trainer, along with two other women, is preparing to take on the World’s Toughest Row in an incredible challenge which will see her row across the Atlantic in December 2025.
Rosie Tong, 26, from Henley, has signed up to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic. She will take on the challenge in December 2025
Captain of her crew, Rosie will lead the trio who will row 3,000 miles from La Gomera, Spain, to Antigua, completely unsupported. They will encounter 30 foot waves, 25 knot winds, sharks, whales, dolphins, and a whole lot more. They’ll carry all their food and a water desalination device with them and navigate the journey themselves.
“I’m so fortunate to be taking on this challenge,” said Army reservist Rosie.
“The middle of the Atlantic is closer to space than it is to dry land so it’s not for the faint hearted, but I can’t wait to lead my crew.
“There are two rowing positions on the boat and we’ll row two hours on, two hours off, 24 hours a day until we reach the Caribbean.”
Their challenge is twofold: Raising funds to get to the start line and fundraising for their chosen charities – The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, which partners sporting mentors with young people and conservation charity Ocean Generation founded by Sir David Attenborough’s lead diver on his incredible Blue Planet series.
With the support of the community and sponsors, they aim to meet the financial demands of this endeavour and focus their energy on raising funds for these life-changing causes. All proceeds will be donated to their chosen charities.
The team will be rowing in an R35, the world’s first ocean rowing boat designed specifically for three people, made by Rannoch Adventure, the ocean rowing world record boat building firm in Burnham on Crouch.
With rigorous training already underway, the team is calling on the local community to get behind them and help name their boat. For just £3, you could win the opportunity to name their brand new ocean rowing boat, and attend an official naming ceremony before they leave.
The team also offers a variety of sponsorship opportunities, from individual and small business support to tailored corporate partnerships. They can create bespoke packages based on specific amounts or to cover particular aspects of their campaign.
