Wokingham’s Liberal Democrats were awarded ‘Council Group of the Year ‘at the party’s spring conference in York by the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors (ALDC).
The ALDC and LGA (Local Government Association) Lib Dem group are the party bodies championing local government. They invite nominations for this award each year – simply fill in a form making your case!
Over the past year, the Lib Dem group on Wokingham borough council took control of the council after winning the Maiden Erlegh and Whitegates by-election.
Four years into running the council, some of the changes made since the Lib Dems took over the council are starting to make a real difference to how the council delivers services, they said in a statement.
A spokesperson told Wokingham Today: “All of this external recognition is a reflection of the dedication of the group, and how well we work with each other and council officers.”
The group is made up of 28 individuals from across the community with a constructive, inclusive culture set by group leader Stephen Conway.
“While recognition from the wider party is nice, our focus is local, and I hope this gives everyone a well-deserved boost to keep delivering for residents.”
