Carl Doran, Labour
Carl lives in Earley with his wife and two young children.
Carl works in Reading as a telecoms engineer, a trade he learnt during ten years in the RAF.
Having served his country for a decade, Carl now wants to serve his local community.
Carl said, “I am honoured to be selected as Labour’s candidate in Bulmershe and Whitegates. I am already on the doorstep, week in week out, listening to the views of residents. If elected, I will work hard in an effective opposition, hold the Wokingham Tories who have forgotten us, to account and make sure the voice of residents is heard.”

Nigel has lived in Woodley for over 20 years and knows the area well. His main priorities are increase school funding, provide more affordable homes in the borough, and increase recycling – in particular the kerbside collection of glass.

I want to represent you on the Council and deliver the best for Bulmershe and Whitegates. Council tax is your money and must be spent wisely. Having worked as a University Lecturer, I’m now self employed. This allows me to spend time with my family and get more involved in our community.
Woodley is very much my home; it’s where my wife and I chose to raise our daughters who both attend Rivermead Primary School. We enjoy exploring the lovely local area and I urge the Council to invest in local leisure facilities and protect our green spaces from further development. We must shield Bulmershe field to preserve a green lung between Woodley and Earley.
Brian O’Callaghan, Green
Brian O’Callaghan has lived locally for more than 20 years. He is passionate about conservation of both the built and natural environment. Brian is a regular cyclist, both for commuting, local journeys and recreation.
Brian has campaigned effectively on local environmental and planning matters. He has particular expertise in education and conservation.
Brian is a historic environment consultant. He taught architectural history at the University of Reading and was for ten years Head of the School of Continuing Education. He has also worked as the Head of Education and Lifelong Learning for the Royal Town Planning Institute and as Conservation Officer for a nearby local authority. He has been a school governor and currently serves as a Berkshire Magistrate.
