London Irish head coach Les Kiss insists there is still room for improvement despite six wins from six so far this season.
The Exiles have made an impressive return to the Championship and collected their biggest win of the campaign so far by thrashing Yorkshire Carnegie 72-5 at Madejski Stadium on Saturday.
Irish sit second in the table, two points behind leaders Ealing Trailfinders with a game in hand.
And Kiss says that while the start to the season has been pleasing, there are still areas which need work.
“It’s important to recognise that we’re playing better to our strengths,” he said.
“12 tries in any league is an achievement and our set piece, the forwards need a good rap for that.
“We look at our whole game and then you look at your units and components of a game and what we’re trying to achieve.
“In terms of our exits in a game, we’re not being as good as we’d like to.
“Our kick-off receptions were just a little bit loose in that area. Some of the things are things that we think can be improved immeasurably, which will give us a higher ranking.
“But in all honesty, six or six and a half out of 10 I’d be saying at the moment, recognising that our strengths are pushing us there and if we can get a couple of elements in our game right, we can push that up to an eight or a nine.
“But we can’t get ahead of ourselves. It’s important we understand that this competition has only just started and we’ve got to keep our heads.”
Irish were dealt a blow in the warm-up when in-form fly-half Stephen Myler was forced to withdraw, meaning Ben Meehan stepped in at the last minute to start.
And Kiss was impressied with the impact of his fellow Aussie.
“It is pleasing, without a doubt,” said the head coach.
“It’s not by accident. That’s come from an off-season of making sure we understood certain players’ flexibility, where they can play in the game.
“We did notice that Ben Meehan can cover 10 and we’ve trained him a lot there. We’ve played him before in games, even in the friendlies we tried him out there.
“That arms you for situations like Saturday. He played very well I thought.”
He added: “It was nothing too serious for Stephen, he just took a little knock in the warm-up so we thought let’s do it.
“Those are the things that we want to prepare for, things that you can’t legislate for like red cards and different things like that.
“We want to be a team that can play in all conditions and ultimately they went out there and performed with Benny (Meehan) at 10, which was real nice.”
