BUILDING work has begun on Crowthorne’s new fire station.
When completed next summer, the High Street station will also house offices for the police and the ambulance service.
Firefighters have already relocated to a temporary home within the grounds of Wellington College.
The Crowthorne station will be completely rebuilt to include space for a fire engine and 4X4 vehicle, an office for fire service staff, a compact gym and a community room for local groups.
Watch Manager, Tony Jell, said: “We are really grateful to Wellington College for rehoming us while the work takes place.
“Due to Wellington College’s location, we will be able to continue to respond to emergency calls as we have for many years.
“The move to Wellington College is a sign that this work is well on its way to deliver a contemporary fire station to the local community.”
Julian Thomas, Master of Wellington College, commented: “Our students benefit enormously from their regular interactions with members of the local community.
“We are looking forward to playing our part in helping the Crowthorne firefighters to continue their excellent work.”
