A best-selling children’s book by Michael Morpurgo will be brought to life by actors at South Hill Park next week.
Following its consecutive successes at venues including Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Shakespeare’s Globe, Poonamallee Production’s performance of An Elephant in the Garden will next take a halt in Bracknell.
Set in Germany during the Second World War, this heart-warming tale follows the
story of a young girl called Elizabeth whose admiration for an elephant at her local zoo sparks her determination to save the mammal from sudden death.
And if the destruction of her home and having to flee a bomb-stricken city doesn’t make things hard enough for Elizabeth’s family, the hefty addition to their refugee cluster poses a challenge which only sheer power and resilience will bear.
Michael Morpurgo is the multi-award winning author of more than 100 books, including modern classics War Horse, Private Peaceful and Kensuke’s Kingdom.
And the literary giant has collaborated with director and producer Simon Reade to create the adaptation of An Elephant in the Garden which Poonamallee Productions will perform.
An Elephant in the Garden will be performed from May 20- 21 at Wilde Theatre, South Hill Park. The show is suitable for ages nine upwards. Tickets start at £10.
