Wokingham & Emmbrook and Reading City shared a point each after a tense battle in the Combined Counties Premier North.
As the game proceeded, Reading City made a few breaks which were countered by Sumas. Both were blocking each other’s way at the respective ends and Toby Raggett was blocked out of making progress.
At the Sumas end, City had a shot blocked then it was the turn of Sumas to take a free kick and prompted by two-touch passing there was a shot which went to York, in goal.
From a Sumas free kick, a lob but the ball went high but off target as well. At Sumas end a wing ball was received but the angle was too acute but the ball was too high anyway.
Dan Davies received the ball 25 yards in a central position and fired in a real dream of a curler giving City the lead into the interval.
After the break, Sumas made ground into the Reading penalty area and the foul meant a penalty which Jack Mullan tucked away equalising in the 49th minute and restored some of the life after the stinging end of first-half goal.
Reading took a free kick but up front runners were caught offside but Sumas had a ball tapped into the penalty area but there was no contact with the ball as it crossed the area.
Next highlight occurred when a penalty was given as a Reading man was adjusted from perpendicular to horizontal by a defender.
Josh Baines made no mistake beating Woodward to send City back into the lead.
Right on the hour, Mark O’Connell received the ball after decent approach work but he was in a similar position to Davies had been and his shot was also well executed and slapped into the back of the net levelling the scores again.
Reading made a break but the clearance was fairly easy. Sumas forced a corner but by the time a player in a shooting position was able to have a pot shot it lacked power and York was able to pick up the ball without any strenuous effort.
Substitutes were made, in the 76th minute when James Clark departed to be replaced by Nathan Mindomba and Sanchez Parkes made way for Enow Ojong to give Sumas fresh legs.
Reading City made their substitutions as time passed. Mullan took a free kick which eventually gave Sumas a chance to find the winning goal but the shot went direct to York. Reading attacked again and had a shot which was scuffed and missed the target.
York went way upfield leaving an unattended goalmouth and beat a Wokingham man on the touch line and then had to sprint back pronto.
Reading tried to make a last ditch attempt to find a winner but failed to do so likewise Sumas and the game was drawn.
