Housebuilder Crest Nicholson led a bulb planting event for 11 students from Bohunt secondary school.
Led by Dr Jo Toovey, science teacher and eco coordinator at the school,, students were a mixture of the eco game changers group, the eco committee, the pollinator club, and other students interested in eco-friendly actions and gardening.
The pupils were provided with planting equipment by the firm to plant bulbs, seeds and flowers that will bloom in the autumn.
The mayor of Wokingham Borough, Cllr Adrian Mather, attended the event and students had the opportunity to ask him questions about his role.
He said “I was so pleased to see so many Bohunt Wokingham students planting bulbs to
improve their local environment.
“In addition, I was amazed by the understanding of the students.
“Their knowledge that what we do locally can affect our overall environment, and that action needs to be taken to conserve and enhance our local and global environment was very pleasing”.
A spokesperson for Crest Nicholson said; “We had a wonderful time working with students who care so deeply about the environment.
“Crest Nicholson is committed to improving the local community at Arborfield Green and
supporting young people’s learning and development.”;
The students planted various winter-flowering bulbs and poppy seeds around the Arborfield Green stables as an homage to the history of the site.
Arborfield Green was originally used in 1904 as a Remount Depot in Arborfield Garrison, supplying the military with horses for operational use.
