Amazing drone footage captured by a Wokingham Paper reader shows the building progress of Wokingham borough’s first-ever Aldi store, which opens on Thursday, March 15.
The store is in Suttons Business Park in Earley, next to Shepherds House Lane and London Road.
The footage was captured over the course of a year by reader David Gregory and posted on YouTube.
The new Aldi will be officially opened with a visit from Team GB gold medallist Etienne Stott, pupils from Beechwood Primary School and Chase from the popular children’s TV cartoon Paw Patrol.

The first 30 shoppers to arrive on the morning will receive a complimentary bag full of fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range as part of the store’s Get Set to Eat Fresh initiative, which encourages children aged 5-14 to develop their understanding and love of fresh, healthy food.
The new store will offer a range of British produce and is more than 1,254 sq m of retail space. It has 121 car parking bays and will employ 25 people: it currently has a number of vacancies including Deputy Store Manager, Store Assistants and an Apprentice.
It marks a change of direction for Suttons Business Park as it is the first retail outlet to open there. Alongside it is a drive-through Costa coffee outlet.
Aldi is employing a team of 25 for the store and currently has vacancies.
The supermarket was crowned Employer of the Year 2017 at the Grocer Gold Awards, abd says that it offers one of the best working environments in the UK and one of the highest rates of pay in the supermarket sector, with the majority of Aldi employees now receiving a minimum rate of £8.85 per hour, regardless of their age.
All employees will benefit from rising salaries during their service, with Store Assistant salaries rising to £10.41 after just four years.
A press statement reads: “Aldi’s new Reading store is also seeking people with management experience for its Deputy Store Manager position. Deputy Store Managers work closely with the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to ensure the store operates smoothly, and are responsible for managing the store team in their absence.
“Deputy Store Manager roles start from 25 hours per week, with an attractive starting salary of £9.85 per hour, rising to £11.41 per hour, plus an extra £4 per hour when responsible for managing the store.
“Hard-working and enthusiastic candidates are being targeted for Aldi’s Store Assistant positions to carry out responsibilities such as accurate and efficient till operation, stock management and merchandising. Usual contracted hours for a Store Assistant can vary from 15-30 hours a week.
“Salaries for the role start from £8.85, rising to £10.41 per hour after four years of service, with double pay available for hours worked on Bank Holidays.
“The store’s Apprentice vacancy involves a three-year course with a mixture of in-store, practical experience, and theory work. The scheme provides Apprentices with Store Assistant training in year one and Store Management training in years two and three, with a salary of £180 per week in year one, rising to £267 per week in year three, which is significantly higher than the national minimum wage for apprentices.”
Another Aldi is due to open in Wokingham’s town centre as part of its regeneration project.
