The team at Wokingham Borough Council have asked Earley and Woodley residents to get in touch and tell them where the local potholes are in their local roads.
Potholes typically worsen during the winter months due to the freeze-thaw cycle, which causes water trapped in cracks to expand and contract, weakening the road surface and eventually creating holes when vehicles pass over them.
Councillor Pauline Jorgensen (Con) found several large potholes in Earley including several in Rushey Way, near ASDA and the Loddon Valley Leisure Centre.
She said, “Since the LibDems took control of Wokingham Borough Council in May 2022, the condition of local roads has deteriorated and congestion has increased.”
There are some very dangerous faults in our roads, and Cllr Adrian Betteridge, executive member for active transport, has just the solution.
He said: “The council encourages residents to help them by finding the potholes in their street.
“Wokingham has undertaken 1049 pothole repairs since April but with the best will in the world we don’t have somebody who travels around to find every pothole in the borough.
“The potholes will get fixed but there’s 150 miles of roads in Wokingham. We need your help.”
He asked residents to report their biggest potholes by visiting: wokingham.gov.uk/roads/report and click on: “Report Pothole and Road Footway Damage.”
Urgent issues that require immediate attention can also be reported by telephone using the council’s normal or out of hours contact numbers.
