Swallowfield-based Your Davey Bread has taken home two medals in the 2025 Britain’s Best Loaf competition for its Merry Berry and Barley Bumpkin sourdough loaves.
The “Merry Berry” loaf was awarded a silver medal in the flavoured sourdough category, and the Barley Bumpkin was awarded a bronze medal in the plain sourdough category.
The bakery took home the awards from the competition on April 8 after its bread was judged by a panel of experts from the UK baking industry.
Britain’s Best Loaf – organised by leading baking industry publication British Baker – is an annual event that honours the finest bread produced by the nation’s best bakers.
Every loaf entered across the eight categories is put through its paces by the expert judges and scored on external appearance, internal structure, aroma, and taste.
The rigorous process means the winning loaves in each category are truly deserving of their ‘Britain’s best’ titles.
Dave de la Riviere, owner of Your Davey Bread, said “I’m overjoyed that our bread has received Britain’s Best Loaf awards for the second year running.
I’m so grateful to our customers who buy the bread and enable us to try out all these different recipes.”
“Merry Berry is a cheeky little nod to the nation’s baking treasure herself, Mary Berry, and the loaf itself is packed with festive flavour – studded with cranberries and roasted walnuts.
“Barley Bumpkin is a plain sourdough loaf, enhanced with the addition of bibury barley flour to enhance the flavour and texture.
Your Davey Bread won the Seeded Sourdough category in 2024 with its Uncle Tom Cobbler n’all loaf.
The business sells its products by pre-order from its website at www.yourdaveybread.com, and it also attends local shows and events.
