Bluebird Care teams from Reading, Wokingham, Maidenhead, Windsor and Bracknell hosted a cake sale at Woodley library last week, raising £146 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Helen Mason, finance assistant, and Cat Ferguson, care coordinator, from the local home care provider were behind the event, with the teams personally baking all the cakes in a heartfelt effort to contribute to the national cancer charity’s important cause.
The sale featured a selection of homemade cakes, including brownies, lemon drizzle, Nutella cookie dough, Biscoff truffles, school cake, custard cream blondies, and chocolate and vanilla cupcakes.
In the UK, there are more than 385,000 new cancer cases each year, which is more than 1,000 new cases every day. More than a third of these cases are diagnosed in people aged 75 and over, making the support provided by Macmillan Cancer Support and Bluebird Care ever more important.
The Woodley library team kindly accommodated the sale at the last minute, providing a warm and welcoming space indoors as it was pouring rain that day.
Library staff even joined in to help sell cakes, while the local crochet group offered their support by purchasing treats during their meeting.
The event was a great success, with visitors throughout the day stopping by to enjoy the homemade goodies and contribute to a good cause.
Helen and her team are already looking forward to continuing the tradition next year, with the same spirit of dedication.
Helen Mason, finance assistant at Bluebird Care Reading, Wokingham, Maidenhead, Windsor and Bracknell, said: “Cancer touches so many lives, both in our personal circles and in the people we care for in their own homes at Bluebird Care.
“We’ve seen the emotional and physical toll cancer can take, which is why supporting Macmillan means so much to us. It felt like a small but meaningful way to show that we care.
“The money we raise might not seem like a lot, but every bit helps support those affected by cancer, and that’s what truly matters.”
