FORGET baking cakes and biscuits. Move over Masterchef. There’s a new contest ready to spice up Wokingham and it’s taking place this Sunday – September 15.
The third annual chilli cook-off will be held at The Queen’s Head and all entrants need to do is turn up with a pot and a stove to heat it on. Alternatively, entries can be reheated in a microwave.
A judging panel, including The Wokingham Paper’s resident chef Gavin McArdell, will taste each one and mark it accordingly.
The winner will be judged the best in Wokingham and have their name engraved on a special shield and have bragging rights for a whole year.
A spokesperson for the contest said: “Each chilli will be judged for the type of chill that it is, so feel free to deliver your best home chilli – it will not be marked down for having or not having beans, tomato or whatever else.
“The only thing that it must have is some sort of chilli, mild or hot is up to you.”
To ensure fairness with judging, entries will be anonymised.
The contest runs from 2pm to 4pm, so entrants need to arrive before then, and have enough chilli for four or five portions.
And the pub in The Terrace welcomes guests to join in the fun on the day.
