As part of my ministry in Wokingham, I am fortunate enough to be welcomed into local schools to deliver a number of different workshops and activities with children and young people of all ages.
One of these activities is Open the Book, a programme of school assemblies overseen by the Bible Society.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of us taking Open the Book into Wokingham Primary Schools and telling stories from the Old and New Testament in an informative and engaging way, usually inviting the children themselves to take part and often wearing a funny costume.
Over the years, we have attended Westende, Bearwood, Holme Grange, Emmbrook, Hawthorns, among others, and shared the stories in a suitable and appropriate way with children from all different faiths and cultures.
This has, in turn, led to us being asked to hold additional assemblies around Harvest and Christingle and even re-enacting the Nativity play for members of CLASP at their Christmas extravaganza.
We could not run the assemblies without the commitment and passion of volunteers from churches across the town.
We are planning to hold a celebratory 10th Anniversary meal in the coming months so if you have been a volunteer over the years and would like to join us, please do get in touch.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or just want to see what we do, please visit www.biblesociety.org.uk/get-involved/open-the-book
In the meantime, please remember in your prayers the staff, volunteers and children who have been a part of the stories over the years.
