ONE bright spot for the Conservatives in this year’s local elections was the seat they gained from the Liberal Democrats in Woodley.
Jenny Cheng, the current mayor of Woodley Town Council, snatched South Lake seat from Beth Rowland.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” Cllr Cheng said. “I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me and supported me.”
“I’ve never been a borough councillor and I’m told it’s very different [to being a town councillor].”
And Cllr Cheng promised to represent every member of her ward, even if they didn’t vote for her.
“Of course I will,” she said. “I’m here for all the residents.”
And in neighbouring Coronation ward, former leader of Wokingham Borough Council Cllr Keith Baker, was re-elected with an increased majority.
He said that his victory was the result of 12 years of serving his residents “giving them all the things they need”.
“I’ve increased my majority, I’ve got 67% of the vote, more than twice the other two candidates combined. I think that’s a very, very pleasing result.”
