THE CORONATION of King Charles III will see residents all things British, and Wokingham Borough Council is calling for street party organisers to apply for free road closures to celebrate the occasion.
The council will be waiving road closure charges during the bank holiday weekend of May 6, 7 and 8, meaning residents will not have to cover the costs of signs and diversion routes.
Cllr Paul Fishwick, executive member for active travel, transport and highways, said: “We know that many borough residents will be celebrating the coronation and we are pleased to confirm that we will be allowing people to apply for a free road closure.
“The coronation will be a memorable and historic occasion and we are encouraging as many residents and communities to get together to host street parties and events, put out some bunting and celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.”
Downing Street confirmed an extra bank holiday on Monday, May 8, proclaimed in honour of His Majesty’s coronation. It will allow families and communities across the country to come together to mark the special day.
Residents who would like to close their road to hold a street party must make an application on the council’s website by April 16.
