Two pedestrian crossings in Wokingham are expected to be completed later this year.
Speaking at last month’s full council meeting, Cllr Rachel Burgess asked Cllr Martin Alder, the executive member for active travel, transport and highways for an update on the planned work on Wiltshire Road and Warren House Road in Norreys.
She said: “Residents have previously been assured that the long-awaited new pedestrian crossings in the ward would be implemented in Spring 2025.
As it is already January, can you provide an update on the progress of these crossings including Progress with the crossing designs, Timing and format of consultation with residents on the crossing designS, and the expected timescale for full completion of both crossings
Cllr Alder said: “Our consultants have completed the designs, and they are currently being audited.
“Once we have the audit completed, we can review the comments and see if any changes need to be made to the design before we can send it to our contractor for installing the new crossings.
“In line with our statutory responsibility, we notify Thames Valley Police and will be publishing a notice in the local press.
“We expect to install the crossings by the end of the summer 2025, subject to ensuring no other planned works are taking place within the area by any third-party including utility companies.
“Once the contractor has the order for the works, they will produce a construction programme which will allow us to firm up the date for the delivery.”
