TEACHERS, or families, who worry that children in their care may miss out on a school trip or activity are urged to get in touch with Wokingham United Charities.
The borough charity and grant giver is keen to make sure that no child has to turn down the chance to go on a school trip due to lack of financial support.
Wokingham United Charities (WUC) has set up a new fund to help children from lower income households access the same extracurricular activity opportunities as their classmates..
Following a grant of £25,000 from Wokingham Borough Council, in partnership with the Hardship Alliance, WUC’s Brighter Futures award is available to help children take part in a wide range of extracurricular activities.
It can fund a variety of pursuits, including: school trips, club membership, sports equipment, instrument rental purchase and participation fees.
Amy Garstang, manager at Wokingham United Charities, said: “School trips, clubs and other activities help young people make the most of the opportunities available to them through school.
“Young people shouldn’t have to miss out because of a financial situation they or their families often have no control over.
“This fund aims to bridge the gap, providing access to enriching activities that are integral to their growth and development.”
All referrals must come from a professional referrer, such as a teacher, youth group leader, sports trainer or relevant local charity.
Families can’t apply directly, but can ask their school or club to apply for a grant for their child on their behalf.
