TWO schools in Earley which were flooded following last night’s storms are set to re-open tomorrow.
Hillside Primary School, in Rushey Way, suffered ‘extensive’ flooding in four classrooms, the library, toilets and main hall, forcing the school to close to all students today.
Following a clean-up operation and Health and Safety inspections this morning, the school has now confirmed it intends to reopen tomorrow (Thursday).
In a statement on the school’s website, the school thanked Wokingham Borough Council for its help in clearing up the mess.
The statement said: “Due to the nature of the damage caused, there are a number of assessments being done today by various agencies.
“Our intention is to reopen tomorrow as normal. In the short term, we will rehome children from Year 6 as these are the two worst affected classrooms.
“All other classrooms will safe and usable by tomorrow.
“Once again we apologise for this forced closure and thank you for your support. Wokingham Borough Council are helping with the clear up but we would like to thank all those families who offered their services today.”
The school also confirmed that today’s closure will not affect children’s attendance records.
Maiden Erlegh School, in Silverdale Road, was ‘severely affected’ by the storms, suffering significant flood damage which forced the school to shut today.
However, the school is set to reopen to Years 7 to 10 tomorrow. Year 12 students will be set work that can be completed from home.
