BUS services in Earley have been given a boost thanks to its town council.
At a meeting last week, councillors voted through a request from Wokingham Borough Council that it uses some of its community infrastructure levy funds to support local bus services in Earley.
This funding is from property developers, and is for use on local facilities, including public transport.
The town councillors agreed to make an annual contribution of £1,293.21 for a period of three years, with effect from September to support bus services in Earley.
In a statement, the town council said that councillors agreed that supporting local bus services would be a positive way for the Town Council to support its residents and the wider environment.
The vote comes as the borough council tenders for the provision of bus services in the borough to 2035. Due to rising fuel costs and the high inflation rate, it is thought there will be sharp rise in the cost of running the routes, which include the 19a, and the 21s, currently operated by Reading Buses.
