Emma Prudden, a parent of a player from FC Bracknell, completed the London Marathon to raise funds for the football club.
Emma took to the course in England’s capital alongside thousands in order to raise much needed funds for new training equipment for the FC Bracknell Wolves girls team.
“In March this year I found out that I was lucky enough to gain ballot entry into the London Marathon,” said Emma.
“I have registered for a ballot place year in year out since 2010 when I last had the opportunity to take part in the event.
“I was therefore completely shocked to receive entry and after experiencing quite a nasty fall in Lockdown I had near enough hung up my running shoes so I was also now pretty daunted by the training path ahead.
“12 years on, I am now a few years older, a mum of two and have a very different lifestyle. I therefore sat on the fence a little bit with this one and didn’t tell too many people as didn’t want to raise expectations.
“For me taking part in the London Marathon is an experience like no other and to raise money for something very close to home and that benefit those in my community was a no brainer.”
Emma was inspired by the Lionesses success in the summer to help to maintain the push to raise the profile of girls and women’s football
She continued: “With that in mind I decided to raise as many funds as possible for my eldest daughter’s football team, FC Bracknell Wolves, who have not only encouraged her love of football but really are another part of our family.
“With the great success of the Lionesses this year, now more than ever it is time to support and develop our children and raise the profile for women’s football.
“So, on Sunday, October 2 – I hit the streets of London with the masses – the atmosphere truly was incredible and very emotional after months of long training runs.
“It wasn’t easy and there were some tears shed along the way but with my incredible support from friends and family spectating I managed to complete the 26.2 miles in 04:17:24.
“I have so far raised £1,542 for the girls and this exceeds more than I ever expected.
“The funds will be going towards new training equipment for the girls and I hope I have made them all proud and it makes a difference to their love of the sport and progression.”
