A PUB in Wokingham’s town centre plaza closed its doors for the last time on Sunday.
The Gig House just off Denmark Street, formerly JD Wetherspoons, has been a part of the town for nearly 20 years.
Having hosted night outs, school reunions, and live bands, it was a place for making memories, say the management team.
Privately owned by entrepreneur Robert Butcher since 2018, the pub’s closure was reluctantly announced on the pub’s Facebook page last month.
The pandemic and the rising cost of living were both cited as contributing factors.
“We’ve had our ups and downs, but we truly want to thank the Wokingham community for its continued support and custom,” they said in an online statement.
“After nearly 20 years of service in the community, it’s time to bid farewell to a place that holds memories for many of our local residents and beyond.
“The Gig House has been in the heart of local nightlife since day one.”
A closing party on Saturday, July 13, was followed the next day by the pub’s final event to cheer on the England football team in the Euros.
