Resurfacing work on a road that straddles the border between Wokingham and Bracknell was left “half completed” in what one resident has described, sarcastically, as a masterpiece of cooperation between two councils.
The work on Wiltshire Avenue in Crowthorne, close to its junction with Dukes Ride, ends exactly at the border of areas covered by Wokingham and Bracknell councils, with the work being completed on the Wokingham side only.
Chris Easton, assistant director of highways and transport at Wokingham Borough Council, told Wokingham Today: “We’re always looking for ways to work with our neighbouring councils, and meet regularly to discuss upcoming opportunities.
“However, it’s not always possible, such as in this example where the Wokingham Borough Council part of Wiltshire Avenue has been resurfaced.
“Our team works to a different schedule to Bracknell Forest Council, with different contracts using different contractors and materials.
“Our surveys highlighted issues on the part of Wiltshire Avenue we’re responsible for, which we’ve now fixed”.
A spokesperson for Bracknell Forest council confirmed the work was managed by Wokingham Borough Council.
The spokesperson said “Only a short section of the road falls within Bracknell Forest.”
A map supplied by the council showed the border between Wokingham and Bracknell is exactly where the work had ended.
The spokesperson added: “Bracknell Forest Council hasn’t been approached regarding any joint work on this road.”
