Rarely is a goalkeeper ever on the scoresheet, but that’s exactly what happened for Eversley & California shotstopper Josh Selby who netted in his team’s win over Yateley United.
In a contest in the Combined Counties Division One between two sides pushing near the top of the table, it was the Boars who earned three precious points in the local clash.
In a remarkable moment in the match, a long kick from goalkeeper Selby went all the way in after a misjudgement from the opposing keeper.
The Boars then doubled their lead before the break when Ross Baker met Kenny Anthony’s cross.
Eversley held out to pick up three points in a scoreless second-half to give them an impressive win on the road as Yateley lost four just the fourth time in 27 matches.
The victory puts Eversley in sixth position on 48 points from 24 games with plenty of games in hand on the teams above them.
Yateley remain in an excellent position despite the loss and are in third on 57 points from 27 games, just three points behind second placed Berks County.
Yateley are in midweek action with a Tuesday night trip to Berks County in a top of the table clash, while Eversley are away to FC Deportivo Galicia.
