I want to get straight into priming this week, but I am just going to use five of my priming lines for you today rather than the whole shebang…
- Be YOU this week but be the best version of YOU.
- Be YOU this week and don’t be scared of standing out for being AWESOME compared with everyone else…
- OPTIMISE your state of mind and allow your brain to offer up OPPORTUNITIES that may have been suppressed for some time.
- OPTIMISE your environment and allow the positive to whoop the negative in every possible way. Eradicate the negatives and just wonder what OPPORTUNITIES will land at your feet.
- OPTIMISE YOU. What do you stand for? What matters to you? What OPPORTUNITIES would change your life?
What I love about writing this column every week is that inspiration can come from a range of sources. Sometimes I wake up and on my article writing morning which is Sunday, I just get inspired to talk about a certain topic (this happens regularly).
From time-to-time, I will see a social media post that triggers something deep inside me to deliver my own personal views on that topic.
As has happened many times throughout this Every Step Counts journey, I have a long list of topics that have been pre researched and conceptualised and I just write a column as you know what it’s like when you have passion and drive about a certain thing or activity … time just flies and you get in the zone and just go into AUTOMATICITY mode.
Think back to the amazing moment in Jerry Maguire when he pulls an all-nighter and is in real flow aggressively writing his blueprint … that’s what I am like very much of the time when it comes to this column.
This week however was different. I was having a scan of one of my news apps and an amazing headline jumped out at me. The headline was ‘Children given resilience classes to help protect mental health’.
What an awesome article it was. Today I want to summarise some of the key points for you. As a parent and also a coach of several youngsters, I found this extremely interesting and hugely impacting. The world is changing, and we really do need to look after our younger generations. So, what did I learn from the news article then?
- Almost half of kids asked in a survey stated that being a “YouTuber” is their dream job.
- In a school in Blackpool, regular resilience classes are being offered to youngsters in which they are being helped to overcome tough times in their lives.
- The classes help to relieve all the things that have been stuck inside for so long as they help the kids to not worry but actually overcome the issues.
- In the modern world, everything is distant, and the classes are designed to show the youngsters that when something goes wrong; it isn’t the end of the world.
- As part of this plan, 42 paving slabs have been laid at intervals along a road in Blackpool to create a mental health pathway conveying simple messages about the positive things in life.
- The project is reaching almost every young person in the town. Measuring success isn’t straightforward but there is now a growing list of young people in Blackpool achieving small goals and avoiding the traps they could easily fall into.
Pretty powerful stuff right? Well I took the article one step further and researched the slabs that the article mentioned. What an absolutely wonderful idea and please read below to see some of the amazing words that are being used to convey the much-needed message …THAT RESILIENCE IS A MUCH-NEEDED SKILL IN THE MODERN WORLD:
- Find somewhere you feel like you belong.
- Spend people with good people in good places.
- Make friends and mix with other good people.
- Plan out your future.
- Be brave.
- Focus on the good things in life, put on your positivity glasses.
- Remember tomorrow is another day.
- Know and understand yourself.
- Take responsibility for yourself.
- Find time for your talents.
I absolutely love what they have done up in Blackpool and I am going to be contacting several people that I know to try and do something similar in Wokingham. The benefits are unlimited, and I truly believe many people would benefit from the project and not just the youngsters. What do you think? Could it work? Would our area benefit from something similar? I’ll leave that thought there for today.
This whole column today got me thinking back to my article from March 2017.
It was in fact only my 28th article for Every Step Counts and we are now on article number 143 … how far have we come?
That article way back in 2017 echoed some of the points above. In recap, that article focused on the G.R.E.A.T. D.R.E.A.M model proposed by Action for Happiness.
The “R” stands for resilience and is part of their 10 keys for happier living using the phrase GREAT DREAM. In the article I spoke about being STRONG and finding ways to BOUNCE BACK from challenges or bad outcomes. In it I said the following powerful words:
“There is no such thing as a problem … Just an opportunity to grow and learn to do something better.”
How about we leave it there for this week then?
GROW…
LEARN…
DO BETTER…
Have a great Sunday, have an absolutely fantastic week and how about you try and spend some time working on some core skills, one of those being resilience.
