Welcome to another week of being truly brilliant and being the being the best version of yourself.
The Hunt family are now back from Majorca after an amazing week away.
As a child I was very fortunate that my parents always did their best to take my brother and I away each year. This is something my wife and I try and do with our family.
It was a funny holiday this year as this was the last time we are going to be away as a family of five.
Our daughter is due in the next 10 weeks and we cannot wait.
As with all things like this I like to reflect on what I have learnt while I was away and here are the lessons I want to share with you quickly:
- Time with loved ones is precious, don’t waste it especially whilst children are young.
- Having a period in the sun to boost energy and wellbeing levels is huge.
- Deloads and breaks in training are essential for long term goals.
- Having periods of intensity matched with periods of downtime is a sure-fire recipe for success.
- Watching your children play and smile from ear to ear is the best medicine out there.
- Time away from normality helps focus on the things you really want from life.
- Swimming is one of the most under appreciated tools available to the everyday athlete.
- Ice cream on a hot day is one of life’s wonders.
- All-inclusive holidays are a must for big groups or families.
- Keep after sun in the fridge. Taking it out at the end of the day and applying it all over your body is one of those true treasures.
OK, so some of them are serious above and some of them are me having a laugh on this lovely bit of reflection but you get the point.
Reflection lets you see the positives and negatives and then gives you clarity to boost things moving forward.
On that note, I couldn’t feel fresher right now after a week away. Roll on what 2019 now has to offer and roll on some amazing times coming up over the next few months.
Right, let’s get in the right state of mind shall we and get you in the zone of awesomeness. Read the words below (you should know them well by now) and feel Über confident and positive while you read them:
- Be YOU this week but be the best version of YOU.
- Be YOU this week and give it your all staying true to your values.
- Be YOU this week and don’t be scared of standing out for being AWESOME compared with everyone else…
- Be YOU this week and STATE YOUR DAYS MISSION FROM THE MOMENT YOU WAKE UP.
This week I would like to touch on a quote that I shared last week with you.
For me, when I write this article each week and then reread it several times on its publication I get a profound boost of energy, enthusiasm, drive and understanding of various principles. This is just how I feel. I really hope you feel the same each and every week.
So, here is the quote I would like to expand on this week:
“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is beauty, admire it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfil it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is too precious, do not destroy it. Life is life, fight for it.”
How immensely powerful are those words?
How many positive terms and concepts are there in that one paragraph?
Positive words – life, opportunity, benefit, beauty, admire, dream, challenge, game, play, fulfil, overcome, sing, confront, adventure, make, precious and fight.
Negative words – sorrow and tragedy.
They say for overall wellbeing you need a ratio of around 3:1 of positive to negative interactions and events.
For true happiness and flourishing as Martin Seligman likes to call it, you need a ratio of up to 6:1. Well, looking at the words above I would say that the numbers are 17:2 which is around 1:8.5 which is pretty good.
This week I want you to read the phrase every morning and every night.
Become obsessed with it and really believe in the words. Live the words, act on the words and share those words with whoever you encounter.
Me personally, I will be reading those words each night before my kids go to sleep and dream the night away. I want those last few words before they go to sleep to be immensely powerful and permanent in their little minds.
I want you to feel the power when you read them and say them out loud.
The words you write or speak to others can leave a huge impact and create a lasting memory–either good or bad, so it’s super important to choose them wisely.
Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.
One kind word can change someone’s entire day.
As Joseph Conrad once said: “My task, which I am trying to achieve is, by the power of the written word, to make you hear, to make you feel, it is, before all, to make you see.”
And finally, Words are seeds that do more than blow around. They land in our hearts and not the ground. Be careful what you plant and careful what you say. You might have to eat what you planted one day.
Happy Sunday, go take on the world, help your loved one’s flourish and let’s make the world a better place one interaction at a time.
