RESIDENTS and staff at a Shinfield care home welcomed their families and friends on-site for a fete to bid summer farewell.
More than 100 people, including members of the community and children from Honeysuckle Day Nursery, took to Shinfield View to take part in a wide range of activities on offer.
Decked out with bunting, the home’s gardens played host to a tombola, hook-a-duck, coconut shy, as well as a tropic skincare stall.
But the attraction of the day was the mobile petting farm, which featured a horse, cow, lambs, bunnies, guinea pigs and mice, all of which provided a memorable experience for guests young and old alike.
Jodie Watmore, Shinfield View’s general manager, said: “I am delighted at the success of our end-of-summer fete and immensely grateful to all those who helped raise money and guarantee a good day.
“The sight of over 100 attendees, including the bright-eyed children from the Honeysuckle Day Nursery, enjoying a day filled with laughter warmed the resident’s hearts. The excitement and curiosity generated by the petting farm made the day, as it brought pure joy to all, and the vibrant atmosphere was a sight to behold.
The home’s catering staff organised a barbecue and cooked up hot dogs and burgers, along with squash, hot drinks and cake.
The event also provided an ideal opportunity to give back to the community, with guests encouraged to bring a 50p donation for Shinfield charity Helping Hands, who offer support to those facing financial hardship.
“This fete was more than just a day of fun,” Ms Watmore explained. “It was an opportunity for us to give back to our community.
“By kindly requesting a donation and arranging stalls, we were able to raise over £390 for Helping Hands. I look forward to our next event where we can create more lasting memories.”
