A CAT has had to have a leg amputated after it was shot by thugs using an air rifle in Finchampstead.
The Bracknell and Wokingham branch of Cats Protection revealed the news in a post on its Facebook page.
The incident took place on Saturday, June 9, on Nine Mile Ride, between Heath Ride and Kiln Ride Extension.
The post said: “Unfortunately, owing to the injuries sustained by the cat, his leg had to be amputated, although we are hopeful that he will survive, but this has caused him tremendous pain.”
They added that the incident had been reported to both the RSPCA and Thames Valley Police.
“If you have any details regarding this incident, then we urge you to contact either of them immediately,” the statement added.
Last month, Cats Protection delivered a petition calling for air gun licensing in England & Wales to the Prime Minister, Theresa May. It had more than 110,000 signatures.
It can still be signed at http://www.cats.org.uk/airgunspetition.
The RSPCA and Thames Valley Police have been contacted for a comment.
