A FINCHAMPSTEAD man has been jailed after he assaulted police officers called to domestic abuse incident that took place on the day his football team lost.
Michael Ficetola, 43 and of Ditchfield Lane, pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of assault on emergency workers at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday, November 22.
He was sentenced to one year and four months’ imprisonment, as well as given a five-year restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim.
The court heard the incident took place on Sunday, May 14, with Ficetola arrested and charged the following day.
Ficetola’s victim, a woman in her forties, was assaulted following an argument. His assault worsened when the football team he was watching lost their match.
His victim suffered bruising to her chest, forehead and right eye.
Thames Valley Police officers called to the scene to arrest Ficetola were also attacked, and one of them sustained a cut above his right eyebrow and to his right hand.
Detective Sergeant Dale Purcell, of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “Domestic Abuse and violence against women and girls is a force priority for Thames Valley Police.
“Our officers work extremely long hours and are dedicated to bringing offenders to justice.
“In this case the Domestic Abuse Unit was able to arrest, charge and remand Ficetola within 24 hours.
“The officer in this case worked tirelessly to ensure the evidence was gathered and the victim supported, so the offender was compelled to plead guilty rather than face a trial. I would like to praise Trainee Detective Constable Wolny, for her efforts in securing this conviction.”
He continued: “I would also like to praise the victim who had the courage to support this investigation in securing this conviction.
“We urge anyone who is suffering to come forward, you will be listened to and we will do our best for you.
“Police officers go to work every day to help keep people safe and most of the public understand this and show respect as they go about their work in the community.
“There is no excuse for assaulting an emergency services colleague and this will not be tolerated.
“Any such incident will be subject to a thorough investigation with the goal of bringing offenders to justice.’’
