AN ELECTRIC generator caught fire at a new housing development in Wokingham on Tuesday night.
A crew from Wokingham Fire Station was called out to Mulberry Grove in the Keep Hatch area of the borough at approximately 10pm having received reports smoke was pouring across the street.
On arrival it was discovered a mobile generator powering floodlights in the area had blown and was well alight.
Hose reels was used to tackle the blaze.
Temporary lights are currently being used in the area, where some 500 homes are being built as part of the Kentwood Farm West development, in the absence of lampposts.
A fault is believed to be the cause of the fire, with the problem relating to either a loose wire or the self-sustaining power source had overheated.
Fire crews spent around 50 minutes at the scene.
No-one was hurt.
On the same evening, pumps from Ascot and Windsor dealt with a Land Rover Discovery which was alight in Mill Lane, Ascot.
The alarm was raised at 9.30pm and the crews spent around an hour attending the incident using hose reels.
The vehicle has been destroyed.
It is believed the fire was started deliberately.
