A ROAD that connects Wokingham borough with neighbouring Henley has been closed for flooding – and it might not reopen for several days.
Wokingham Borough Council says there is a risk of black ice as well as the road being underwater.
The affected road is the A321 Wargrave Road in Wargrave.
It has been closed between Kentons Lane and White Hill.
The council says Storm Henk caused the River Thames to burst its banks, with the water flooding the road. According to data on its one.network, the road might not be reopened until Wednesday, January 10.
The Environment Agency says property flooding is expecting and river levels are rising slowly.
The peak level is expected this evening (Sunday, January 7), and there is a strong current.
Earlier today, it was revealed that the River Thames level in Reading was 7.54m, its highest in modern records. At 6.15pm, it was 4.19m in Shiplake – the highest level reached was 4.22m, recorded on January 5, 2003.
The normal range is 2.95m.
There are also flood alerts in Lower River Loddon including Swallowfield, Arborfield, Shinfield, Barkham, Lower Earley, Sindlesham, Winnersh, Woodley, Hurst and Waltham-St-Lawrence.
