A BOROUGH school’s harvest festival celebrations led to a huge donation of food to Wokingham Food Bank.
Pupils at Winnersh Primary School came together for a festival assembly led by the school’s head of religious education, Mrs Claire Fawkes.
The children learnt about the importance of sharing and appreciating all the good things they have.
As part of this, they were asked to bring in food donations for Wokingham Food Bank.
Once all of the food had been collected, headteacher Mrs Nicola Davies accompanied four of the school’s House Ambassadors; Elaine, Zain, Abi and Olivia, to drop the food off at the depot in Winnersh.
“We understand that in these times of financial challenges our school community needs to prioritise their own families over being able to donate to others, but we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our families and the amount of donations that came in,” said Mrs Davies.
“We couldn’t believe it when the food bank told us it weighed a whopping 156.65kg.
“We are so lucky to have such a supportive community here at Winnersh Primary”
