A BOROUGH church has invited British writer and journalist Austen Ivereigh to give a talk about a process of reflection and renewal in the Catholic Church, to which he has been a contributor.
The Wokingham Catenians, a men’s social group at Corpus Christi Catholic Church has asked Mr Ivereigh to tell them about the exercise and its outcomes.
Mr Ivereigh is one of two British ‘experts’ who were called to serve on an assembly referred to as a ‘synod on synodality’.
It draws its conclusions this month with a two-stage gathering in Rome.
Mr Ivereigh has contributed to the process of renewal and reflection since 2021, and is attending the XVI Ordinary General Assembly Of The Synod in the Italian capital.
He will explain what has happened during the undertaking, and how it is reshaping the future of Christianity.
The author is best known for his two biographies of Pope Francis, and a New York Times bestselling book written in collaboration with him, called, Let Us Dream: The Path to a Better Future.
A Fellow in Contemporary Church History at the Jesuit-run Campion Hall, University of Oxford, he writes regularly for Commonweal, America magazine, and the National Catholic Reporter.
In the UK he writes for The Tablet, and talks, writes and broadcasts on the vision of Pope Francis.
His two biographies are: The Great Reformer. Francis And The Making Of A Radical Pope; and, Wounded Shepherd. Pope Francis And His Struggle To Convert The Catholic Church.
Mr Ivereigh’s talk, What Happened At The Synod, And Why It Matters, will take place at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Sturges Road, on Tuesday, November 7.
Doors open at 7.30pm.
