THE long-running BBC religious programme Songs of Praise is preparing to come to Reading – and its special guest star will be Rick Astley.
In 2016, the pop star, famous for hits such as Together Forever and Hold Me In Your Arms, released an album called 50, which featured the songs God Says, Angels On My Side and Pray With Me.
In an interview with BBC News, the singer said: “I’m not really religious. I’ve got a faith but I’m not exactly sure what it’s in. It’s mainly in human beings, I think.”
However, he has been signed up to help lead singing when Songs of Praise comes to Reading Town Hall on Sunday, October 20.
The event will also feature the Croydon Seventh Day Adventist Gospel Choir and the singing will be conducted by Ken Burton.
The show launched on the BBC in October 1961, and traditionally featured local churches in congregational singing, along with potted life stories from Christians who lived in the featured town or city of the week.
The first programme came from the Tabernacle Baptist Chapel in Cardiff. It has also broadcast from Strangeways Prison, Trafalgar Square and the Falkland Islands.
Free tickets are available for the Reading recording, which takes place between 4pm and 7pm.
