A new arts trail will invite visitors to artists’ studios giving an insight into their work from first sketches to final masterpieces.
Acorn Open Studios’ trail, with artworks on sale, is being run by a group of established artists in Wokingham and east Reading from May 25-27.
Watercolourist Kusum Shabong of Lower Earley said: “Each studio visit offers a unique experience, with artists sharing their stories, inspirations, and creative journey.
“Seeing the artist’s workspace provides valuable insight into their artistic process, from initial sketches to finished masterpieces. It’s an experience that simply can’t be replicated in an impersonal exhibition hall.
“Compare this to getting produce from a farm vis-vis a supermarket. There is appreciation, value and connection.”
In Wokingham Trish Roberts, who has her own press, will explain printmaking.
Hurst artist, Liz Chaderton, opening her studio for the first time, said: “The studio is where the magic happens – hopefully. It’s where little ideas take hold and one thing leads to another…
“[My studio] is usually a very private space where I can experiment and make mistakes as well as successes. I hope visitors will understand more of the ideas behind the finished work, having seen inside.”
Christine Morgan of Wokingham said: “My mission is to encourage all ages to experiment and enjoy making art in what ever form.”
The trail gave her the opportunity to interact with others and share simple ways of doing things.
Sayani Drury of Shinfield said: “Visitors are welcome to ask about the artist’s materials but, unlike other venues, the artist can demonstrate these materials and the specific way they use them.”
The other artists are Calina Lefter of Earley, Liz Baldin of Spencers Wood and Linda Saul of Charvil.
The trail is being held under the West Berkshire and North Hampshire Open Studios umbrella. The Acorn Open Studios trail venues and examples of the artists’ work are by visiting: https://acornopenstudios.uk/
Most of the Acorn studios will open on dates earlier in May as well.
