The future of what has been described as a dangerous tree in Wokingham remains uncertain.
Last week, Wokingham Today reported how the cedar tree, in the grounds of St Paul’s parish church, was “coming to the end of its life”, and would need to be removed on safety grounds.
Work that was set to begin this week has been postponed.
Cllr Jordan Montgomery, executive member for environment and climate emergency, told Wokingham Today: “Felling a tree is irreversible.
“When a tree is as prominent as this one is, we want to make sure that felling is the only viable option.
“We have been working with the landowner to understand their proposals, and to agree the right decision for the tree.
“We have agreed that the tree should be reduced rather than felled, which will allow for appropriate risk management, and to maintain some of the biodiversity of the site and the environmental value of the tree.”
