Renowned broadcaster and funny man Tim Brooke-Taylor will be popping into Wokingham this month.
He is expected to help East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire care charity, Thames Hospice, with the final day of its week-long campaign called ‘Raise the Roof’.
The appeal, which begins on Saturday, September 7, hopes to raise the final £3 million needed to finish building a new hospice which will help its patients with life-limiting illnesses.
Wokingham shoppers will be able to meet Brooke-Taylor, star of BBC’s I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, and enjoy plenty of entertainment and refreshments on the final day on the appeal – Saturday, September 14.
Thames Hospice chief executive Debbie Raven said: “Tim has been an active supporter of Thames Hospice for many years.
“We are absolutely thrilled he, together with Deputy Mayor Malcolm Richard and High Sheriff of Berkshire Lucy Zeal, will be joining us in Wokingham to celebrate and help spread the word about our appeal to raise the final £3 million we need to complete your new hospice.
“Please come and support us and let’s Raise the Roof together!”
The hospice staff said demand for its services growing.
Each day there will be up to ten people left at home, or in a hospital bed when that is not the care they want or need.
The charity caters to the physical, social and psychological needs of its patients through nursing and therapy, but currently it does not have the facilities to help everyone.
The current Windsor building has already been expanded and cannot be adapted any further to meet demand.
But, construction for the new building by Bray Lake started at the beginning of this year and only needs £3 million to be completed.
A current Thames Hospice patient Lisa Parris-Cambridge said: “Thames Hospice has been there for me and my girls.
“They provide the care, counselling and support that makes my diagnosis better to deal with. I can’t imagine what life would be like for others in the same situation left without Thames Hospice’s support.”
This Wokingham event is part of a series Thames Hospice will be hosting between Saturday, September 7 and Saturday, September 14.
Only Fools and Horses actor and Thames Hospice Ambassador Sue Holderness will be popping up in the Windsor branch on the first Saturday of the appeal, while Tracey Beaker (aka Dani Harmer) will launch the campaign in Bracknell on Wednesday, September 11.
Documentary maker, Eastenders actor and author Ross Kemp will be entertaining the crowds in maidenhead on the final Saturday too, making it a star-studded week in the county.
The appeal will come to the Peach Street store in Wokingham town centre and doors will be open from 11.30am.
