A SHINFIELD man who was arrested on Boxing Day has pleaded guilty to murdering his wife.
Laurens Brand admitted the charge when he appeared at Reading Crown Court earlier today (Friday, March 22).
The court heard that members of Thames Valley Police had been called to the couple’s Parker Close home at 5.40am on December 26 last year.
Brand’s wife, Angela Mittal, had been stabbed in her neck and chest.
The 41-year-old had died before police arrived on the scene.
Brand, 47, will now be sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday, May 10.
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Mike Roddy, of the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit, said: “First, I would like to extend my sympathy to the people who knew and loved Angela Mittal.
“She was described as a kind-hearted and generous person and this is the way Angela will be remembered.
“Brand has pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, but the death of Angela cannot be undone.
“This was a brutal attack on his own wife, in their own home, where she should have been able to feel safe and secure.”
