RAIL company GWR says families can make big savings on journeys with some special deals.
Its family tickets allows two adults and up to four children travel on a single ticket, saving on the cost of the equivalent four or six Advance fares.
Its examples include a trip from Reading to Plymouth with two adults and four children.
An advance fare would cost £132, but the family ticket would be £71, a discount of £61, or 46.2%.
London to Truro is available from just £99.50, a 22% saving for those with two children, and a £72.50 or 42% if travelling with four not so little ones.
And the company offers two-for-one deals on attractions across the GWR network, including Madame Tussauds, Legoland Windsor, and Mary Shelley’s House of Frankenstein attraction.
There are also some free attractions suitable for older children, such as the South West Coast Path, the epic backdrop featured in Games of Thrones and Poldark among others.
A spokesperson for GWR said: “With speedy trains to get you to the fun faster, free Wi-Fi, onboard toilets to put an end to those unscheduled loo stops and a great selection of food and drink, the adventure can start the second you jump on board.
“Take advantage of our great value Family ticket. There really is nothing to stop you.”
Under railway rules, children under five can travel free if a seat is not reserved. The family fares apply to children aged five to 15.
GWR says when booking via its website, the details of the party – the number of adults and children – should be entered into the system and the family ticket option chosen from list of trains available.
