A FAMILY support charity is taking part in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge this week, and hopes that borough residents will generously support their ambitious fundraising target.
From Tuesday, December 3, Home-Start Wokingham will be seeking donations from the public to support their work with Wokingham families.
If they reach their hoped-for target of £7,500, the figure will be doubled.
“In this way, we’re aiming to raise a staggering £15,000 in just one week,” said the group’s fundraising manager, Amy Fennell.
“Donations are going to be generously matched by local business, The Growth House, so if people donate £5, it will be doubled to £10, and their money will be able to support twice as many families.”
Funds will give children a better start this Christmas by enabling Home-Start to provide compassionate home-visiting support to vulnerable and disadvantaged families with children under five years old, living in Wokingham Borough.
“The families we support are all struggling to cope due to a range of challenges including poverty, isolation, mental and physical health problems, disability and illness,” said Amy.
“It costs just £30 to provide a family with a few hours of life changing support from one of our trained volunteers.
“Having a hand to hold or a shoulder to cry on can make all the difference to parents, getting them through the toughest of times.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to double the difference we make.
“It’s the first time we’ve taken part in a campaign like this and to hit our target is a massive challenge.
“We hope everyone will give generously to enable us to carry on the work we all feel so passionately about.”
Home-Start Wokingham’s Big Give challenge will take place from noon on Tuesday, December 3 until Tuesday, December 10.
