Plans to build new homes along the Wokingham railway have moved a step closer.
Details of the latest homes in the South Wokingham Strategic Development were approved as part of a hybrid planning application on December 24, 2024, after plans first emerged in 2019.
The scheme of 2,500 homes will result in the urban extension of Wokingham town close to the border with Bracknell Forest. Many of the homes will be built south of the railway line, which runs between London Waterloo and Reading.
Two new primary schools, facilities, and shops will be created alongside the homes.
As the strategic development is so large, the project is divided into separate areas so councillors can assess the plans in greater detail.
A total of 171 homes will be built on land south east of Finchampstead Road after final approval was given last month.
Charles Church Developments will build a suitable area of natural green space (SANG) alongside the homes on the land east of the Tesco Superstore. This will be a recreational site for new residents to use.
Plans show homes will be built in three sections along the approved South Wokingham Distributor Road.
To the other side will be a SANG, built within the Emmbrook river basin.
The Strategic Development could grow even further if Wokingham Borough Council’s masterplan for housing, known as the local plan, is approved by a planning inspector.
The plan would expand the current South Wokingham scheme by another 1,100 homes.
