Winter is continuing to bite and Wokingham once again woke up to a blanket of white this morning.
But this white stuff wasn’t snow, it was a visit from Jack Frost.
Temperatures fell to their lowest point for almost a year last night – the Met Office reported that at its nearby monitoring base in Farnborough, they were -5.4ºC at 4am this morning. The mercury didn’t rise much as dawn arrived: -5.3ºC was the recorded temperature at 8am this morning.
Maiden Erlegh School, which keeps its own weather station, also recorded low temperatures.
It tweeted a low of -4.6ºC
-4.6C minimum last night

That’s enough to make us want to stay under the duvet all day!
The good news is today is the coldest that we’ll see for a while. Temperatures will start to rise. Today’s maximum is predicted to be 1ºC, tomorrow will be 2ºC, Thursday will be 4ºC and by the weekend we should be back into double figures.
Those of you hoping for some more snow will be pleased to note the Met Office’s advance forecast for the first half of February. It notes that it will be “frosty at times, though mainly towards the southeast where there is a little more potential for a more prolonged settled, colder period of weather.”
