Hurst Bowling Club are holding an open day for, they say, “this much loved, underrated and challenging sport for eight to 88 year olds.”
The taster session is at their green, by the Castle Inn, Church Hill, Hurst on May 3, noon to 6pm. The green, dating back to 1747, is the second oldest in the country.
Club secretary Pam Broomby joined the club when she retired as a district and practice nurse for a Wokingham GPs surgery. She said: “It’s a very welcoming and friendly club. It means you’re outside in a beautiful area, it’s exercise and you make new friends.”
She added that the sport can be played in a highly competitive way, with real battles going on, if that’s what those players want.
The taster session is free with a warm welcome, tea and biscuits on offer. There’s a 50% reduction in club membership fees on the day. To book a time call Nicola on 07749 826565.
