Diving hero Tom Daley, created in knitting by the Hurst Hookers group, has been invited to visit their village’s Olympics display.
Two woolly models of Tom, who won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics on Monday, are poised about to dive into Hurst pond, in the latest stunning display by the crochet and knitting group.
The creative crew feels a special affinity with Tom, who has been enjoying his hobby of knitting while watching events at the Paris Olympics.
Philippa Etheridge, from Hurst Hookers, said: “We were pleased to include Tom, a very well known knitter. It was a tribute to him as a fellow knitter.” She had sent him a message from the group wishing him well with his dive.
“He would be very welcome to come and see what we have done,” she added.
The display includes woolly competitors in many Olympics sports, but sadly one of them, an equestrian bunny which took eight hours to make, has suddenly disappeared.
Hurst Hookers member Heather Howarth said the group was appealing for the return of the rabbit with a little horse.
The display at the junction of School Road and the main A321 road, includes other bunny competitors in sports including weight lifting and tennis. Canoeing, sailing and many other sports also feature.
Large woolly Olympic rings adorn the village sign. Lita Brown’s woolly gold, silver and bronze medals on cushions are displayed on the Central Convenience Stores post box and Heather Howarth’s synchronised swimmers are on the Lodge Road one.
Hurst Hookers’ displays attract many visitors. New items, including medals as they are won, continue to appear in the Olympics display which has been co-ordinated by Catherine Pearce.
